Worthington’s Economic Development officers have a great plan to increase Worthington-based jobs and operations. With the proper support and enthusiasm from City Council, city staff can focus on bringing quality jobs and business opportunities to Worthington. I strongly believe that the city staff and City Council has a unique opportunity foster expansion for small- and mid-size business within the region.

I would like to see Worthington as a day trip destination point in Central Ohio for a quaint shopping and dining experience. I would like to see Worthington businesses thrive due to the participation and retention of customers locally as well as from all over Central Ohio. We can accomplish this by organizing a grassroots-type campaign and a marketing campaign showing off the retail atrributes that Worthington has to offer as a shopping and dining destination.

Professional industry growth is a goal I have. We can use avenues, such as media outlets, to generate awareness and implement a grasstops campaign to attract professional businesses to base their offices in Worthington. This will allow for job opportunities and business growth in our community.

Community recycling programs have become more popular due to the surge of environmental awareness. I would like to work within Worthington and with other communties in the surrounding Columbus area to start a community recycling program and competition. Residents of the winning communities are awarded with prizes from sponsoring companies. This will generate environmental awareness and healthy rivalry among communities.

I would like to organize Worthington leaders to work with our electric utilities provider to promote utilization of Energy Star appliances by offering rebates on Energy Star qualified purchases. Currently there are no such rebates through AEP, but electric companies throughout Ohio do offer these rebates to their customers. This helps lower costs for the consumer, the city, and the electric company.

Using existing relationships with wireless providers, I will look into the possibility of upgrading Worthington’s wireless capabilities for public access at no cost to the city or taxpayers.
